:. James Bond soundstage to be re-built .: || 08/05/2006 - 3:57 AM ||

A massive British soundstage that was used for the upcoming James Bond film will be gutted and re-built after a weekend fire.

British actor Daniel Craig will play the new James Bond in Casino Royale, to be released in November. A set used for the film burned down on Sunday. (CP) British actor Daniel Craig will play the new James Bond in Casino Royale, to be released in November. A set used for the film burned down on Sunday.

Flames could be seen for many kilometres as the building —one of the largest of its kind in the world at 102 metres long, 41 metres wide and 12.5 metres high — burned Sunday morning at Pinewood Studios, about 30 kilometres west of London.

At least eight fire engines responded to the blaze. Witnesses said they heard two loud explosions just before the building caught fire. No one was injured.

:. Fire wrecks James Bond film stage .: || 07/31/2006 - 6:04 PM ||

The large James Bond stage at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire has been destroyed by fire. At least eight fire engines tackled the blaze at the set, where filming for the new movie Casino Royale had finished. Eyewitness Jen McVean, who owns a firm at the studios in Iver Heath, said the stage had been "completely on fire".

The stage had been transformed into a replica Venice where the film, with a reported budget of £39m ($72m), is partly based. The roof covering the stage caved in through fire damage and firefighters used special equipment to reach it.

:. Cornell: "I Almost Turned Down the Bond Theme" .: || 07/28/2006 - 4:46 AM ||

Chris Cornell almost turned down the chance to record the new James Bond film's theme song, because he disliked Pierce Brosnan's recent 007 movies. The Audioslave frontman has been selected for the soundtrack of Casino Royale. But Cornell only agreed to compose the track once he had watched a rough edit of the upcoming Daniel Craig-starring movie.

He tells VH1, "I wasn't really sure about doing a Bond theme, because I wasn't really a big fan of the last several movies. And then I heard that there was going to be a new guy - Daniel Craig - who was going to play Bond. And he's so different. I have seen him in several movies, and I was kind of intrigued. So I went to Prague (in Czech Republic), where they were shooting the movie, and they showed me a rough edit of it. I was just completely blown away by it, because it's unlike any Bond film ever, really. Craig is an actor's actor, and there's emotional content to the movie. He's not like the swaggering, winking sort of super-agent guy. He's like a human being in this movie, and it's going to completely readjust the way people think of the character."

:. Chris Cornell pens Casino Royale title song .: || 07/24/2006 - 2:46 AM ||

Chris Cornell, the screaming siren voiced frontman of Audioslave (and former lead singer for Soundgarden, as well as Temple of the Dog) has written the main title theme to the new James Bond entry Casino Royale.

Cornell collaborated on the song, entitled "You Know My Name," with long time Bond composer David Arnold (who has scored all the Bond films since Tomorrow Never Dies)

Chris Cornell marks the first time since 1987's The Living Daylights that we've had a male perform the title song.

Prior to Casino Royale we've had:

Die Another Day - Madonna
The World Is Not Enough - Garbage/Shirley Manson
Tomorrow Never Dies - Sheryl Crow
Goldeneye - Tina Turner
Licence To Kill - Gladys Knight

:. 'Casino Royale' To Receive Royal Treatment .: || 07/26/2006 - 4:43 PM ||

Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, will receive its world premiere at the 60th Royal Film Performance at the Odeon Leicester Square theater in London on November 14, Sony/MGM said Tuesday. :. Bond reunites with Smirnoff .: || 07/24/2006 - 2:46 AM ||

Daniel Craig will become the sixth and the newest face of James Bond with the release of Casino Royale in November, but another familiar face will return for the first time since 1999.

Smirnoff will again be the vodka for the martini-loving spy — who famously demands his be "shaken, not stirred." The brand's history with Bond dates to its appearance in the first 007 film, Dr. No in 1962..

Smirnoff will be on a smaller roster of promotional partners than has been the case for recent product-placement-heavy Bond flicks. This is the first Bond movie marketed and distributed by Sony Pictures, the new owner of MGM.

Under MGM and Eon Marketing, which owns the James Bond rights, the last Bond movie —Die Another Day — had about 20 partners who anted up a total of $100 million in marketing support. One of them was Brown-Forman's Finlandia vodka, which spirited away rights to be 007's vodka when Diageo-owned Smirnoff got sidetracked in a corporate reorganization.

:. Ursula is the ultimate Bond girl .: || 07/23/2006 - 2:33 AM ||

The timeless image of Ursula Andress emerging from the sea in a white bikini has earned her the title of best Bond girl of all time.

A poll of film fans found that the actress's iconic turn as Honey Ryder in 1962's Dr No, the very first Bond movie, made her the best leading lady in the spy capers.

She beat younger models such as Halle Berry, who emulated her bikini scene when she played Jinx in Die Another Day in 2002. Berry took fourth place.

The survey by Empire magazine and Sony Pictures also reveals the ultimate Bond movie, gadget and villain. The 1964 film Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery, was voted favourite movie with 25 per cent of the votes. Although it was the third film made, only 1965's Thunderball, attracted bigger cinema audiences.

:. Bond Footage Screened in Amsterdam .: || 07/03/2006 - 6:21 AM ||

Twenty minutes of footage from upcoming James Bond movie Casino Royale was screened at the Amsterdam Cinema Expo this week, leaving journalists impressed with Daniel Craig's gritty portrayal of the superspy.

The glossy edge of the Pierce Brosnan movies has been replaced by brutal fight scenes as director Martin Campbell delves into the dark side of Bond's psyche and past. US publication Variety writes, "The footage showed off Craig as a grittier Bond, with scenes of more intense, visceral hand-to-hand combat than 007 has tackled in recent pics. One black-and-white scene flashed back to Bond's first ever (brutal and hard-to-pull-off) kill as an agent, as well as his (much more sleek and signature) second assassination."

:. Buy Bond's, James Bond's, birthplace .: || 06/14/2006 - 2:10 AM ||

Want a bit of Bond history?

We’re not talking Sir Sean Connery’s autograph or a Bond DVD box set. We’re talking a $1 million Beach Cottage - or maybe just a $700 grand Cove Hut - at Goldeneye, Ian Fleming’s private Jamaican hideaway where he wrote all his 007 spy thrillers.

Goldeneye- owned by legendary music industry empresario Chris Blackwell and his Island Outpost resort corporation - will evolve over the next two years from a small, reclusive resort property into a large exclusive resort village taking up a significant chunk of Jamaica's north shore.

Countless music, fashion and film stars are already frequent guests of Blackwell’s lush, laid-back Goldeneye resort. Johnny Depp is a regular. Scarlett Johansson and beau Josh Hartnett were just there. Naomi Campell even owns one of the Goldeneye villas - the Royal Palm – that you can rent. Other visitors include Bono, Steve Winwood, Bob Marley, Sting (he wrote “Every Breath You Take” there), Harrison Ford, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss. Two cinema Bonds – Sir Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan - have also idled there. Connery, according to Roger Brown, Island Outpost developer, has even expressed an interest in the new Goldeye Resort property. No sign, so far, of the new 007 Daniel Craig whose “Casino Royale” is due out in November.

:. Sean Connery Cool As Bond at Awards Fest .: || 06/11/2006 - 7:50 PM ||

"I had no idea this was such a big deal," the 75-year-old actor said as he was presented with the organization's 34th Life Achievement Award Thursday night.

Connery was as cool and composed as James Bond as he thanked the celebrity-studded crowd, but at times during the two-hour praisefest, he looked almost misty-eyed.

Directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, and actors Andy Garcia, Harrison Ford and Mike Myers were among those who feted the Scottish star.

The ceremony, which also included a videotaped tribute from the newest Bond, Daniel Craig, will be broadcast on the USA Network on June 21.

:. Former Bond girl Halle Berry says DJ's joke was 'Racist' .: || 05/26/2006 - 7:50 AM ||

Halle Berry accused British DJ Chris Moyles of being "racist" live on air Thursday, after he impersonated a "big, fat black guy" on the show.

Hugh Jackman said that the rotund Moyles would be a perfect body double for him, should he ever land the part of James Bond.

Moyles said, "Your Bond double? I could definitely do that. Put your hands up in the air! "I'm a black American guy. A big, fat black guy. Put you hands up in the air. I don't wanna be shooting yo ass!"

Berry remarked, "Are we having a racist moment here?" To which Moyles hastily replied, "No, no! Not at all!"

He later returned to the subject after Berry left the studio, sniping, "'Are we having a racist moment here?' Oh just get over yourself. What the hell was all that about?!"
