80,000 daily infections in Germany with the mutant Omicron

Germany recorded 80,430 new cases of COVID-19 today, Wednesday, the highest number in a single day since the pandemic began, with the spread of the highly contagious mutant Omicron and amid a decline in the vaccination rate compared to other regions in Europe.

The previous record level of daily injuries reached more than 76,000 on November 26.

The total number of injuries in Germany so far reached 7,661,811, and deaths rose by 384 today, Wednesday, to a total of 114,735 deaths.

Less than 75 percent of the population has received at least the first dose of vaccines against Covid-19, according to the latest data from the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases.
