Dozens of people, including soldiers, were killed and wounded in a suicide car bombing in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, yesterday, for which Al-Shabab claimed responsibility. Deputy Governor of Banadir District Ali Abdi Wardhir, who is in charge of security, said the bombing targeted a security convoy on October 21 Road near the heavily fortified international airport. He added from the scene of the accident that “Al-Shabaab” was behind this attack, saying that the police were chasing them, and started an investigation to find out the motive behind the attack. The suicide bomber was killed, while witnesses said that a number of vehicles were destroyed as a result of the accident. The Somali News Agency stated that the explosion occurred in a street crowded with educational and medical facilities. And the American channel “ABC” quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a United Nations convoy was passing at the same time of the explosion, and it appears that it was the target of the explosion, which occurred near a checkpoint on the airport road.
