CDMX: fireflies will illuminate the Tlalpan Forest again after three years

The Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) of Mexico City (CDMX) reported through the Directorate of Protected Natural Areas and Areas of Environmental Value the increase in fireflies at Tlalpan forest during the season of sighting, which is usually in the rainy season.

In this context, the director of Protected Natural Areas and Areas of Environmental Value, Carlos Manuel Vázquez Martínez added that: “it was already or is very hard to find fireflies. Right now we have detected several areas with significant quantities of fireflies, for example in Bosque Tlalpan, which is a reflection of the management that has been done. “

It was through the monitoring project employed a few months ago who is seeking to carry out an identification record of the Flora and fauna of the Protected natural areas to implement conservation actions for the species found, in this case the fireflies and the bat deception.

For its part, Vazquez Martinez assured that to guarantee its conservation, actions are planned to guarantee the population increase fireflies and conserving their habitat.

“In this specific case of the firefly we have already seen that it returned in a significant way and we are going to carry out actions that are reforestation and introduction of plants that favor ideal growth, as well as isolating the areas where we have them detected to allow their reproduction”
