A New York judge on Wednesday upheld the complaint of an American woman against Prince Andrew for sexual assault in 2001 when she was 17, despite a request to reject the second son of the Queen of England.
In his decision, Judge Lewis Kaplan believes that the request to dismiss this civil complaint, filed in the summer of 2021 by Virginia Giuffre, one of the victims of the sex crimes of the American financier Jeffrey Epstein, must be “refused in all respects “.
Towards a trial at the end of the year?
The prince, 61, has been embarrassed for years by his links with Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, and his former partner Ghislaine Maxwell. The defense supported the rejection of this complaint on the grounds that Virginia Giuffre had signed in 2009 an agreement with the American financier not to prosecute him, as well as “other potential defendants”. An argument refused by the judge, in his decision dated Tuesday but made public Wednesday.
The prince is not prosecuted in this case and has always vigorously rejected the accusations of Virginia Giuffre. If all of Andrew’s remedies fail, a civil lawsuit could be held “between September and December “ 2022, judge Kaplan said in the fall of 2021.
Recall of facts
Prince Andrew of Great Britain had asked the American justice, last October, to reject the complaint “unfounded” of a woman who accuses him of sexual assault when she was a minor, claiming that she was seeking to profit financially from the case, according to court documents.
In this very embarrassing case for the British royal family, Queen Elizabeth’s second son has been publicly accused of sexual assault by an American. In early August, this woman, Virginia Giuffre, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court for facts that allegedly occurred more than 20 years ago when she was a minor.
According to Ms. Giuffre’s complaint, he was “one of the mighty men” who she had been to “delivery for a sexual purpose” when she was the victim between 2000 and 2002, from the age of 16, of the vast sex trafficking for which the financier Jeffrey Epstein was accused and imprisoned, before killing himself in a Manhattan prison in the summer of 2019.
Prince Andrew, who rejects “categorically“these charges, is suspected of having”sexually assaulted “ Virginia Giuffre on three occasions: in London with a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and in the properties of the businessman in New York and in the Virgin Islands.
