Taking into account the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, for the use of diagnostic tests for sars-cov-2 (Covid-19) in Colombia, in Cartagena the Operational Directorate of Public Health of the District Administrative Department of Health – DADIS Through its Public Health Surveillance program, it made a series of recommendations for the care of people affected by the virus.

  1. Asymptomatic person Close contact of a person with a confirmed or probable case of Covid 19 (The Epidemiological Surveillance System is not notified, they are not subject to surveillance) the following observations are taken into account:
  • Person with Complete Vaccination Schedule: No isolation required – no proof required – no notification.
  • Person Not Vaccinated or with Incomplete Vaccination Schedule: No testing required – requires isolation for 7 days – Risk stratification (some require monitoring for risk factors).
  • Asymptomatic person who by specific screening to (as a travel requirement, epidemiological fence or on their own initiative) and whose result is positive, they must complete 7 days of isolation regardless of their previous vaccination status, counted from the date of taking the test with a positive result.

2. Symptomatic Person: They must be notified to the surveillance system, requires isolation for 7 days and risk factors must be evaluated, namely:

  • People aged 60 years or over, under 3 years old or people with risk factors: Mandatory isolation of 7 days regardless of vaccination status, counted from the onset of symptoms. A diagnostic test should be performed immediately when symptoms appear to confirm the case. It is recommended that in the presence of symptoms a medical consultation is carried out.
  • People under 60 without risk factors: Case confirmation is recommended due to epidemiological link. Testing is under medical criteria. Mandatory isolation of 7 days regardless of their vaccination status from the onset of symptoms. It is recommended to go to the health services when warning signs or symptoms appear.
  • Epidemiological link: Symptomatic patients who are contacts of people with symptoms or positive are confirmed as an epidemiological link, if no link is evidenced, it remains as probable in the system.
